Frequently Asked Questions

How is the spine width calculated?

Spine width is calculated using Amazon KDP's official formulas based on your page count and paper type. White paper is thinner than cream paper, so the same page count will result in different spine widths.

What trim sizes are supported?

KDP Cover Creator supports all standard Amazon KDP trim sizes including 5" x 8", 5.25" x 8", 5.5" x 8.5", 6" x 9", 6.14" x 9.21", 6.69" x 9.61", 7" x 10", 7.44" x 9.69", 7.5" x 9.25", 8" x 10", 8.25" x 6", 8.25" x 8.25", 8.5" x 8.5", and 8.5" x 11".

What's the difference between bleed and safe zone?

The bleed area (0.125" on all sides) is where your background design should extend to, but may be trimmed off during printing. The safe zone is where important elements like text and logos should stay to avoid being cut off.

Should I still verify dimensions with Amazon?

Yes. While we use Amazon's official formulas, we recommend always verifying your final cover dimensions using Amazon's Cover Calculator before uploading.

What export settings should I use?

Export your cover as a PDF Print at 300 DPI for the best quality. Make sure "Crop marks and bleed" is enabled in Canva's export settings.
